A Call to Action: Peace Corps Cuts Coming

Sunday May 18, 2025

On May 2, 2025 the Trump administration’s partial budget proposal revealed deep budget cuts for the next fiscal year; it does not include any references to the Peace Corps. However, agency leadership and teams received news this week of major employee reductions and restructuring, with cuts announced today of up to 50-70% for some HQ departments. At the same time, Representatives John Garamendi (D-CA) and Amata Radewagen (R-American Samoa) are circulating the annual Peace Corps funding letter, asking their colleagues to increase Peace Corps funding. Follow this link to write your House Reps to encourage them to sign the letter immediately and to access additional information regarding the impact of staffing cuts of Volunteer support.  Once this letter is submitted, the focus will be on a corresponding Senate funding measure. At that time, you will wish to contact your Senator to encourage the same level of support.
